If you commute to work, Allandale is not too far away from anywhere in the city. You are 5-10 minutes away from downtown and only 20-25 minutes away from Austin–Bergstrom International Airport. If you are thinking about moving north of Allandale keep in mind the farther north you go, the worse the traffic gets. Some of the worst traffic in the city is in North Austin and just about anywhere you need to travel the 183 southbound or have to go through the MoPac Interchange.
When searching for a house to buy schools are always a significant consideration. Allandale belongs to the Austin Independent School District or commonly known as Austin ISD. Younger children will attend either Wooten Elementary or Gullett Elementary Schools. If you have a choice between the two Gullett Elementary School has far better test scores.
Middle school age students would attend either Lamar Middle School or Burnet Middle School. Both of the middle schools are grades 6th through 8th. Just like the elementary schools if you have a choice, Lamar Middle School is by far a better choice with the higher test scores.
Most students attending a public high school will attend McCallum High School. The good news is that McCallum is a good school with a 96% graduation rate.
Many Austin residents send their children to private schools. You will find this is common especially if you cannot get your student into the school of your choice. A few of the private schools in the Allandale area are Paragon Prep School, ACE Academy, and Redeemer Lutheran School.
