There are a lot of great Central Austin neighborhoods. The most important part of your home search is finding which area you want to live in and can afford. Below are a few of the best Central Austin neighborhoods to live in.
A lot is going on in Downtown Austin. It’s continuously bustling, and there’s so much to do. Just about everything here is within walking distance. A majority of the homes here are high rise condos and apartments. You’ll also find some mid-rise condos as well. Homes value at about $230,000. Rent averages just over $1,400 a month.
Old West Austin, not far from Downtown, allows you to have the amenities of Downtown within arm’s reach while also providing you with more nature. It’s a more historic neighborhood. The homes you’ll find here include classic bungalows and retro-modern houses. Real estate in Old West Austin is a little more expensive, averaging about $386,000. Even so, rent is still affordable at just over $1,100.
Hyde Park is located just a few miles north of Downtown, accessible to all of the amenities by bus. You can also easily bike to Downtown if you wanted. Another historic area, the homes in Hyde Park consist of Victorian-era homes and well-manicured lawns. There are stricter regulations on how households and properties are maintained. Houses cost an average of $235,000. If you prefer to rent, the average cost is around $1,500.
Mueller is an entirely new neighborhood that has been built on the site of the old Robert Mueller Municipal Airport. Everything in this neighborhood is within walking distance. You’re also only just a few miles from Downtown. There are several different types of homes here, including yard houses, garden courthouses, row houses, condos, and apartments. The cost to purchase a home can be a bit pricy, but rentals are a bit more manageable.
