East Austin Real Estate

The real estate market in East Austin is diverse as the people that live there.  The homes in East Austin are in older established neighborhoods where you can find Victorian mansions, condos, and single family homes all within blocks of each other.  Virtually no HOA fees, unless you are in a condo and residents have more liberties as to how they decorate and the colors they use to paint their homes.

Currently, the median price of a house for sale in East Austin is $369,000 which is considered a bargain as far as Austin goes. Comparably the downtown Central Austin area has a median price of $750,000, North Austin $449.900, South Austin $475,000.  As you can see East Austin is a more affordable place to live.

East Austin Restaurants and Entertainment

There is a reason why millennials and hipsters love East Austin.  The food scene is incredible, and there are plenty of unique bars and live music venues to keep you entertained. Although Austin is known for its barbeque, there are a host of other eateries worth checking out.

Justine’s in Govalle has fantastic French food, and the atmosphere is fun and relaxing.  It’s an excellent place to hang out with friends at the bar or sit outside and enjoy the evening.

Kemuri Tatsu-Yais described as a Tapas style Japanese- BBQ fusion. The restaurant itself isn’t huge and can often have long waits. 

Stay Gold is an exciting fun place to listen to live music and have a drink in the East Casers Chavez neighborhood. If you get then munchies step outside because Stay Gold is frequented by numerous food trucks.  They have a large patio in the back where you can relax and enjoy your drinks.

Scoot Inn has become the favorite outdoor music venue for most Austinites. The bar inside has a comfortable home feel with couches and plenty of seating.  The music venue out back has a quality sound stage and seating for those that want to relax.

The White Horse which is also located between Central East Austin and East Caser Chavez has more of a bar feel to it.  This popular location is not only home to live music, but they have some of the best tacos around and at reasonable prices too.

Neighborhoods in East Austin

Many of the neighborhoods in East Austin are in close proximately to the freeways which makes purchasing a home in the area so desirable.  That and the fact that you live near downtown Austin without having to pay as much for the real estate.

Over the last decade, there has been a construction boom in East Austin.  This is mostly because of the pricing of the land and existing homes in the area.  Many of the neighborhoods have seen homes get flipped or fixed up to become more modern and desirable.

East Cesar Chavez

You can find the East Cesar Chavez Neighborhood within walking distance to downtown Austin.  One of the more popular communities as it borders Lake Lady Bird and beautiful Festival Beach.  You will find it is also adjacent to the Holly Neighborhood and Chicon Street. 

Many of the homes in the area either have transformed into businesses or are used for both.  You will find many bars, restaurants and coffee shops that were once homes.  If a house is near a busy street, this can add to the value of the real estate.   

Mueller

The neighborhood of Mueller is located northeast of downtown Austin.  This master planned community has a little bit of everything including homes, condos, retailers, and restaurants.  If you are looking for homes for sale in Mueller, you will have your pick of townhomes, cottages, condos, traditional single-family homes.  This community is geared towards families and young adults and is considered one of the best eco-conscious communities in all of Austin.

Mueller is home to Lake Park and Ella Wooten Park.  These parks are home to basketball courts, Olympic swimming pool, hiking trails, picnic areas, and multiple playgrounds. 

Holly

The Holly neighborhood is located about a mile or two away from downtown Austin.  In this neighborhood, you will find many cottage style homes built before 1950.  Many of the houses are on the smaller side but some have been remodeled, and extra square footage has been added. 

Holly is located near the Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach.  You will also find favorite restaurants like Juan in a Million and La Barbecue. 

Govalle

The neighborhood of Govalle has been going through a transition over the past decade.  Bordered by the Colorado River to its south and Boggey Creek running right through it you will find that it is centrally located. 

In recent years the real estate in Govalle has increased drastically due to new construction and remodeling of older homes. There are many parks within Govalle including Govalle Park, Metz Park, Rosewood Park and is home to the Colorado River Park Wildlife Sanctuary. 

Chestnut

Located east of The University of Texas at Austin but still very close to the downtown area Chestnut has many popular options for home buyers.  Most homes in Chestnut are under 2,000 square feet and are a mix of bungalows and Mid-century modern homes.

Many homes in Chestnut have mature trees which add to the charm of the area.  Real estate prices range from $300,000 to $700,000 with most homes for sale under $450,000. 

A few of the other popular neaughborhoods in East Austin are University Hills, Cherrywood, and Colony Park.
