Southwest Austin also includes communities such as Belterra, Highpointe, Deer Haven, Maple Run, Shady Hollow, and Stonecreek.

Some of the newer restaurants include The Switch, Cruzteca Mexican Kitchen, and BackSpin Sports Bar and Grill.

Southwest Austin Nightlife

There’s no shortage of nightlife in Southwest Austin. You’ll find plenty of bars including Black Sheep Lodge in Barton Hills, 400 Rabbit’s Bar in Circle C Ranch, and Boomerz Night Club in East Oak Hill.

Southwest Austin Shopping

One of the best places to shop in Southwest Austin is the Barton Creek Mall. There are almost 200 stores located here, including department stores, boutiques, and shops that carry designer clothes. There’s also the Shops at Arbor Trail, which has been named Southwest Austin’s “premier destination for entertainment, recreation, and relaxation.” There are numerous incredible shops as well as restaurants and other amenities.

Museums

There are a few interesting museums located in Southwest Austin. If you enjoy magic, there’s the Magic’s Theater and Museum. Also, to live shows, there is also a museum dedicated to all things magic. Reservations are needed, and the cost is $10 per person.

Things to Do Outdoors

Southwest Austin offers plenty of outdoor activities. One great place to spend time outside is the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. There are over 700 native species of flowers as well as outdoor sculptures, art exhibits, and trails to traverse. There’s also the Hamilton Pool Nature Trail, which consists of a natural pool that was created long ago. The preserve is over 200 acres and has a beautiful pool and a 50-foot waterfall.

Family-Friendly Activities

One of the biggest family-friendly activities in Southwest Austin is the Austin Zoo. There are over 300 animals making up approximately 100 different species, including animals such as tigers, lions, and lemurs. There’s also a petting zoo, where your kids can pet and feed some animals. The zoo initially started as a goat ranch but grew into a non-profit rescue and rehabilitation center.

Sure, you could pop into the Downtown area if you live in Southwest Austin, but with so much to do, you don’t have to travel too far from home.
